AR Graffiti Toolkit

WERC has developed a user-friendly toolkit for their latest artwork, AR Graffiti 3.0. The toolkit generates a digital layer with interactive visuals based on a physical painting, allowing artists to digitally enhance mural paintings.

What does the toolkit do?

1. It generates visuals based on your physical mural.
2. It controls a camera for audience interaction with the visuals.
3. It lets you videomap your visuals to match your painting pixel-perfect.
4. You can adjust audio based on audience interaction and visuals.

Technical requirements: Machine with Touch Designer 2025.32280 installed, Projector, Depth camera of choice (Orbecc, Kinect azure, Kinect v1, v2) or use you webcam.

This toolkit is freely available under a Creative Commons (CC) license. It is provided as-is and without technical support. However feel free to get in touch. Basic knowledge of TouchDesigner is necessary to work with and customize the toolkit effectively. We might continue developing the AR Graffiti Toolkit while our main focus remains on creating new artworks.

About AR Graffiti 3.0

In AR Graffiti 3.0, street art is brought to life with real-time generative projection-based visuals that give the audience control to alter the artwork. This latest installation by the art collective WERC takes graffiti into new dimensions. The work is a multi-layered graffiti piece. Carefully designed computer-generated graphics are placed on top of these layers. The audience plays a significant role in the work. The artwork uses a depth camera that tracks people in real time, allowing them to interact with the visuals projected over the graffiti piece. The different layers of visuals contain constantly changing color combinations and are accompanied by sound that functions like a dynamic drum machine, changing and starting based on the audience’s movements.
