BRAVE NEW WORLD
Brave New World 2.0 is an interdisciplinary science fiction performance by the Noord Nederlands Toneel (Northern Dutch Theater). This performance depicts a future that is completely controlled by technology. For Brave New World 2.0, WERC designed an interactive art installation that gives a face to the technological theme of the story.
How do you translate technology and a theme like artificial intelligence to an art installation? With this question in mind Guy Weizman, director and artistic director of the Noord Nederlands Toneel involved WERC as a co-producer in the Brave New World 2.0 performance.
WERC designed an autonomous installation that seeks interaction with the performance. The basis of the installation consists of wirelessly controlled and fully dismantled iPhone screens. This fully disassembled screen gives a homogeneous light and brings the iPhone back to its essence: a white box with light.
In Brave New World 2.0, WERC presented an installation of wirelessly controlled screens that work partly autonomously and to a certain extend respond to the movements of players. With this art installation, WERC shows an abstract translation of communication and makes themes like artificial intelligence and technology a visible entity.
