INTERCHANEABLE CITIES

Interchangeable Cities is the first result of a special and long collaboration between Taiwanese theater maker and video artist Chou Tung-Yen and WERC.

‘Interchangeable cities’ was exhibited at Taipei Fine Arts Museum , where the Grand Theatre in Groningen functioned as a satellite location.

Two 3d printers were connected live and printing simultaneously. In both Taiwan and the Netherlands, people from the audience were scanned, 3d printed and asked about their memories of various places.

The Interchangeable Cities Project connected Groningen with Taipei. The leading question was: how can cities enter into a dialogue by sharing each other’s stories and experiences, in an age of digital communication, where people are less and less connected to their physical living environment.

With interchangeable cities, Chou Tung-Yen and WERC attempted to translate connections that take place digitally into a tangible visual form that people can relate to.
