WERC_Space is about connecting with and shaping local space. A lot is happening in the digital arts scene in the North of the Netherlands: from a thriving VJ scene to multiple education programs, there’s no shortage of young people wanting to create in digital art. WERC was born and raised in the north so we felt the need to reconnect and define why we love this scene.
That is why we opened WERC_Space.
WERC_Space is the umbrella term for multiple events happening in and around our studio space.
These events are WERC_Residencies, WERC_Artist_Talks, WERC_in_Progress and WERC_Portal.
What these are we’ll explain further down here.

Introducing our audience with the artists we find defining digital culture.A series of talks with WERC’s favorite new media artists. Over the years we’ve met some inspiring, thought provoking and kind artists from all over the world. We’d love for you to meet them as well and so we’re inviting them for an Artist Talk in our studio, so we can all have a drink, talk about the current challenges and opportunities in new media art and discuss their work.

WERC_Residencies is about sharing our work space and connecting artists with our network. Our studio is located in an industrial area just outside the city center of Groningen. This space functions as a lab, test space for prototypes, rehearsal space for various performances and open space for building setups and installations.
Twice a year we invite artists to come work at our studio in Groningen at the WERC_Residency.
The residency lasts a couple of weeks, during which we talk with the artists, help them with their project and connect them with one of our partners. The end result will vary from artist to artist.
WERC_Portal is our way to bring art to an audience and to give an audience to upcoming digital artists.
Groningen is rich in talented artists who create digitally. They animate, program, model, edit, capture and render. We are joining forces with Forum Groningen to give these creative minds a platform. They get the chance to show their work to a big audience in the city’s living room. The large LED screen in the central hall (over 8.5 x 4.5 meters) is the ideal place to do this! Stop by and admire a new artist with an inspiring digital artwork every month! The art will show every two hours between 12 and 10pm.
Are you an artist and would you like to show your work on WERC Portal in het Forum? Then sign up through the form.

At WERC_in_Progress, we believe that sharing insights leads to better art. Digital art thrives on research, experimentation, and innovation. It’s about testing new techniques, refining them, and trying again. With this event, we’re opening up our process to the public.
Each WERC_in_Progress centers on a new artwork we have been working on the weeks prior. We share all the steps we took, from starting inspiration, to failed tests, to finished product.
Our goal is to showcase not only the polished final pieces but also the creative journey—including inspirations, failed experiments, and developmental steps.
